Larna is not only our illustrious owner, but she is also the resident Den Mother to both staff and dogs alike. She's a certified Hypnotherapist who also runs a natural wellness clinic in North Vancouver during the day. It may surprise you to know that she's also a Grandmother (although she prefers Nana, thank you very much!) so she's definitely one busy gal!
Megan is our current longest standing staff member! When she's not at the daycare hanging out with your pups (and her own two ridiculous mutts) she's either working in her art studio or out building something on her overgrown half acre in the woods. She does custom artwork (the pet portraits in the office are her work) and sells her work in local shops, galleries and at art markets. As some of you know she recently returned from a month-long Artist Residency in a tiny remote village in Panama, which was a pretty inspiring (and huge!) adventure.
Christina is up next - and as most of you know she's our certified Dog Groomer! She takes awesome care of your dogs but also makes them look their best. It's so fantastic to be able to have someone who already knows and loves your dogs taking care of their grooming needs. On her off time she can often be found at the beach or at local dog parks with her two pups Bronson and Nellie, I know that she often runs into you guys out with your dogs too!
Alana has been with us for just under two years. She's currently working part time hours and going to school studying Health Sciences with a view to becoming a Sonography Technician. She has also been known to frequent the beach with her awesome beagle Cali, and has big plans to one day adopt ALL THE BEAGLES! Just kidding. But only a little, as she is obsessed with them and it wouldn't surprise me to see her adding beagle after beagle to her household.
Tiana has been with us since last spring. She previously worked as a nanny and in the Home Care field, but she just can't stay away from animals! She also volunteers for the Pacific Salmon Foundation's work on salmon sustainability. She has a cockapoo of her own and two beloved cats, who sure give her dirty looks when she comes home after hanging out with all of your dogs all day!
Jessica comes to us from the retail world. She has been with us for almost three months and grew up with an array of different pets and a passion for animals. She currently shares her home with two Chihuahuas (Chutney and Sofie) and is fostering a very old cat named Beck. And those are just the four legged members - she is a busy Mom to two young boys who keep her on her toes!
Miranda has been training and competing in dog sports (agility, obedience and rally-o) for more than 10 years! She has also previously worked and volunteered in a number of daycares, boarding kennels and training facilities so she brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. She also brings with her a super sweet SPCA rescue named Damon, who we're all getting to know and love. She can also be found as an instructor at Pawsitive Connection, the awesome training facility run by Erin Taylor with which I know many of you are already familiar!
Helene comes to us all the way from France by way of Australia and New Zealand! She worked for 9 years as a lawyer in Brittany (which she will freely tell you is the MOST beautiful part of France!) before deciding that she would rather travel and work with animals. She has been working towards a career as an animal assisted therapist. To that end, since she has been in Canada she has been volunteering with a therapeutic horse riding school and working with us part time.
Dogs are social animals. In order to live happy, healthy lives they need regular social interaction with others of their own kind and humans. Without this they can become withdrawn and depressed, or start to exhibit destructive behaviours such as chewing, digging, and excessive barking. At Playful Paws Doggy Daycare, we provide a safe, clean, healthy atmosphere for your dog to receive plenty of interaction with other dogs and humans. A place where your dog can participate in group play, lounge, snuggle with a human or even take a nap! Our yards are disinfected weekly and our indoor facility is cleaned and professionally disinfected. Our four legged friends are carefully supervised with loving care. Aggression is not tolerated in our playgroups. Our daycare has three fenced outdoor yards (4000 sq ft) with play equipment. There is a covered yard for the big dogs and a separate covered yard for the pint size pals. Both big dogs and pint sized dogs have a separate indoor space to relax with comfy beds for those cozy afternoon naps. The dogs have supervised access to inside and outside areas at all times while they are with us.
